Photographer & filmmaker, Jila Nikpay leads this three-session experiential workshop, and offers women the opportunity to explore their body identity. Her cross-cultural approach combines Eastern and Western sensibilities and makes use of a creative process through which women use their imagination and intellect to examine personal relationships with their bodies. The course begins with a slide lecture that surveys the depiction of women in Eastern and Western paintings. The following session includes visualization and creative exercises that prepare participants for an individual, explorative process using fabric as an artistic medium. The instructor will then photograph each woman, guiding her to move and express inner images of her body. In the third session, these photographs will be projected larger than life; creating a penetrating experience that is transformative. The group viewing of the dramatically draped bodies and the engaging discussion that follows gives the individual a renewed sense of body identity and creative awareness. Each participant will keep a photograph as a record of her self-discovery. This workshop has been offered through University of Minnesota, Compleat Scholar Program & Center for Spirituality and Healing.
